You will soon be able to use the government's DigiLocker to protect your insurance policy documents.  The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority IRDA has directed insurance companies to issue digital policies using DigiLocker.  IRDA has instructed the insurance companies to provide the facility and usage of DigiLocker to the retail insured.  At present, there is a facility to keep driving license, vehicle registration, voter ID card, PAN card, Aadhaar and many other government issued documents in DigiLocker.  Priya Deshmukh Gilbil, Chief Operating Officer, Manipal Cigna Health Insurance, said that this step will help the insured to keep the insurance documents safe and It will help in easy use when needed.  Will also eliminate the need for physical documents.  It is worth mentioning that this facility was introduced by the Central Government to reduce the use of physical documents.

There will be many other benefits as well.  This will help in reducing the cost of insurance companies, reducing the complaints received by the insured for missing or missing documents and improving the service.  Having documents in digital form will also help in curbing forgery.  That is, if the fat is seen, then the experience of insurance customers will also be better.  They will get easy service quickly.


National Insurance Repository (NIR) already has the facility of holding documents of single e-insurance in NIA but it does not provide facility to keep other documents in digital form.  At the same time, DigiLocker is not yet offering all insurance facilities.


What is Digilocker?  


This is a digital locker i.e. digital vault in which you can keep a copy of your required documents, such as driving license, passport and many other documents can also be kept safe in it.


In this way you can  create an account, first of all download Digilocker's app from Google Play Store. Or  Go to digitallocker. gov.in website.  

• After clicking signup, enter your name, date of birth, registered mobile number or e-mail ID, password.  You must create a password yourself.  

• As soon as this process is complete, the username will be created.
